Asociacion Protectors de Animales (APA) is the major animal welfare organization in Nicaragua and strives to protect domestic, working and wild animals in the Central American country. Animal neglect and abuse are common there, and APA has worked to relieve the suffering of all animals by initiating public education campaigns, rescuing animals in need, and providing free clinics for domestic animals and working horses. In 2010 the national legislature of Nicaragua passed the country’s first animal welfare law, which APA helped to initiate and has lobbied for since 2005.
